Leave at least a 2 second gap between you and the vehicle you're following

 

Look and plan well ahead

This exercise is much easier than most people think.

 

Signal your intention early to warn other road users.

 

Stop next to the vehicle you wish to park behind.

 

Once in reverse check all around before moving then steer left  until you are at a 45 degree angle and close to the kerb, moving slowly steer right until your car is close to and parallel with the kerb.
